How Orthodontics Works
Orthodontic appliances slowly move teeth to the proper position by placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction. If you have braces, metal or tooth-colored brackets are placed on each tooth and then the teeth are slowly aligned by the wires. If you have Invisalign®, tooth-colored attachments are placed on the teeth and a series of clear acrylic trays slowly align the teeth.
Once you begin treatment, you’ll need to visit our Burien, Kent, or Redmond dental office for adjustment or check-up visits with our orthodontic specialist, Dr. Chawan. During these visits, he’ll monitor your tooth movement and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. During these visits, you’ll also have the wires changed in your braces or receive new Invisalign® aligner trays.
Your treatment time depends on the amount of tooth movement you need to achieve your aesthetic and functional goals. Generally, orthodontic treatment can take around two years. If your case is simple, then it can be much shorter, around one year.
